HISTORY OF THE COMPETITION

Ballroom dancers have enjoyed the Freedom to Dance since 1924 — competing anywhere in the world without fear or restriction.
Thanks to the vision and cooperation of international pioneers such as PJS Richardson, Alex Moore, George Fujimura, Gerd Hadrich, Detlef Hartman and Mickey Powell, Ballroom Dancing flourished globally and secured the right of both Professional and Amateur dancers to compete freely.
The modern Freedom to Dance movement began in 2010 in response to the banning of couples from the historic UK Championships. Founded on fairness, integrity and the belief that freedom is a universal right, it continues to grow worldwide.
We welcome dancers from all organisations, federations and associations and encourage everyone to protect and uphold the Freedom and Right to Dance.
